Slow Burn Theatre Company strives to be inclusive and seeks to cast a diverse group of actors throughout the 2021-2022 Season which includes the following shows: Songs For A New World, Kinky Boots, Once On This Island, Matilda and Head Over Heels.
*** SPECIAL NOTE - We will not be auditioning the Children for Matilda until SEPTEMBER. Please do not submit children's videos for Matilda until then. ***
CONTRACT:
AEA LOA (in ref LORT-D) - $646 minimum
Non-Equity - $500/wk minimum
All performers are protected by workers' compensation
INSTRUCTIONS:
Include in your email submission: 1) A PDF File of your headshot & resumé; 2) An audition video via YouTube or Vimeo (in the body of the email, provide link and password, if required). Your audition video should include a slate of your full name and TWO song selections of contemporary musical theater and monologue (if you would like). You may attach links to dance reels or other audition reels. You may sing selections directly from the show. In the subject line of your email list your last name, first name, and union status (Example; Smith, Ann AEA). All audition materials due by June 1, 2021 at 5:00 PM (EST)

Slow Burn Theatre Company will promote a fully vaccinated workplace. Employees will be required to show proof of vaccination two weeks before rehearsals begin.
All auditions will be held by video submissions. Callbacks will be held by a combination of video submission and in-person individual appointments.

Charlie Price: Male-Identifying, Late 20’s - early 30’s.
Sings C3-B4. A leading man, just out of university. He is privileged, but likeable. His father owns the shoe factory. He is handsome and lovable but there is a temper under the skin. Must have a great rock voice, ability to move, and be a strong actor.
Lola: Male-Identifying, 30’s-40’s, Black/African descent
Sings C3-B4 (with one top C) 5’8 and above is preferable. Strong comedic cross-dresser who needs to feel comfortable wearing everything from full glamour drag to nothing but boxing trunks. Must have a killer voice with power blues and gospel chops. Must move well. Must have star presence for this challenging role. (This role is cast but seeking submissions for standby/understudy or future replacement)
Lauren: Female-Identifying, 20’s. Sings Bb3-F#5. (Any Ethnicity)
Beautiful, but quirky (not glamorous like Nicola) working class girl who works in the shoe factory. Funny and smart but has had bad luck with men. Terrific comedic actress.
Nicola: Female-Identifying, 20’s. Sings Bb3-F#5. (Any Ethnicity)
Charlies girlfriend since school. Sophisticated looks. She is a social climber, driven and uncompromising. She knows what she wants and goes for it. Must have a great pop voice.
Don: Male-Identifying, Sings C3-F4 (must have a strong falsetto to D5 for the Finale) (Any Ethnicity)
Lola’s nemesis. Burly hyper-masculine bear of a factory worker. Has a menacing physicality. Least likely to be seen on a runway in kinky boots. Strong actor required.
George: Male-Identifying, 40-50’s (Any-Ethnicity)
Sings C3-F4. Factory Manager, keeping up traditions. Reserved and tightly wound.
Trish: Female-Identifying, 40's-50's (Any Ethnicity)
Sings Bb3-D5 and must have a strong rock/pop belt. Factory worker who has been there longer than any of the other women. A lot of life experience and a lot of responsibility-this shows in her face. Comedy chops.
Pat: Female-Identifying, 30's (Any Ethnicity)
Sings Bb3-F#5 a must be a strong pop/rock soprano. Officious office manager who will let loose her wild side when allowed.
The Angels: Male-Identifying, 20's-30's (All Ethnicities) “This ain’t no job for wallflowers.” These are the six drag performers from The Blue Angel Nightclub who perform with Lola. Actors with star quality and personality. Must be versatile and terrific singers (with a contemporary pop/rock/ R&B belt) and dancers (required to dance in heels). Physical fitness is crucial. Tumbling and acrobatic skills a plus. Any angels required to cover LOLA must be non-Caucasian. Three Angels sing to C5 and three sing to A4.
Mr. Price/Ensemble: Male-Identifying, 40's-50's (Any Ethnicity)
Sings Bb2-G4 and must have a good voice. Charlie’s father and owner of the shoe factory. Appears in the opening and closing sequences as well a pub patron, factory worker etc for the rest of the show.
Harry/Ensemble: Male-Identifying, 20's-30's (Any Ethnicity)
Sings E3-C4. A contemporary of Charlie’s but his opposite. Harry is successful, self aware, confident and carefree. Must have a great rock voice. Also plays a Factory Worker etc.
Ensemble: 3 Males, 3 Females, 20's 30's (All ethnicities)
The men and women of the ensemble must be excellent pop/rock singers (belters). They will cover Principal and Featured ensemble roles as well as play factory workers, pub patrons etc.
Young Lola: Male-Identifying, 7-10 years old Black/African descent
Sings G3-D4 Lola as a 10-year old boy who already knows he's destined to wear high heels.
Young Charlie: Male-Identifying, 7-10 years old
Sings G3-D4 Charlie as a 7-year old boy; lost quiet, reflective.

Ti Moune: Female Identifying, 18-25 - A beautifully spirited peasant girl, full of restless energy and optimism; the heroine; tries to break social barriers to be with her love, Daniel; strong alto belt, G (below C) to E (2 above C)

Daniel: Male-Identifying, 18-25 - Ti Moune’s love interest; a handsome, aristocratic young man who struggles with crossing social barriers; sensitive and poetic; strong tenor or baritenor, B(2 below C) to F Sharp (above C).

Asaka: Female-Identifying, 30-59 mother of the earth; A mentor to Ti Moune; personifies the peasant's connection to the land; she is generous and good-humored on the surface, but like all the gods feared by the islanders; her “motherly” façade is not to be trusted; she is powerful, funny, and ironic; strong mezzo belt, A (below C) to E (2 above C)
Ethnicity: Black/African Descent
Erzulie: Female, 20-49 goddess of love; a mentor to Ti Moune and foil to Papa Ge; the most approachable of the gods, but no less egocentric; one of the main instigators of the events of the story, she is looked upon fondly by the people; set out to prove that love is stronger than the fear of death; by love, she means the power of the human heart.

In September, we will audition children for the role of Matilda who are aged 8 to 12 and under 4ft 6in. Her Classmates need to be aged 8 to 13 and under 5ft tall with brilliant dance and singing skills! Boys must have unchanged voices.
Matilda Wormwood: An Imaginative girl who is clever far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.
We will audition children for the role of Matilda who are aged 8 to 12 and under 4ft 3in.

King of Arcadia. A sexy, good l’boy. A hothead, but not a despot. Blindly thinks Arcadia is doing great under his masculine rule, which will be sorely tested during the course of the show.
Must have an excellent pop/rock voice and be proficient with classical text.
Gynecia: (40-50’s) Female-Identifying, Any ethnicity
Queen of Arcadia. Sexy, wise, beautiful. Like any longstanding spouse, knows how to get her way with her husband when push comes to shove. Afraid of getting older. A playful spirit underneath. Must have an excellent pop/rock voice and be proficient with classical text.
Pamela: (20’s) Female-Identifying, Any ethnicity
Basilius and Gynecia’s older daughter. Confident and obsessed with her appearance. Known to be the most beautiful bachelorette throughout Arcadia.
Philoclea: (20’s) Female-Identifying, Any ethnicity
Basilius and Gynecia’s younger daughter. Shy and a “good girl”, she yearns to follow her heart rather than obey her father’s orders.
Dametas: (40’s-50’s) Male-Identifying, Any ethnicity
The king’s viceroy; father to Mopsa.
Mopsa: (20’s) Female-Identifying, Any ethnicity
Handmaiden to Pamela. Warm, skeptical. Growing up without a mother has made her wise beyond her years about everyone and everything, which is why she is the (sometime) narrator to the show. Must have an excellent pop/rock voice and be proficient with classical text.
Musidorus: (18-29) Male-Identifying, Any ethnicity
Musidorus is a guileless and fearless shepherd who loves Philoclea. They discover another side to themself when forced to cross-gender. Should be proficient in physical comedy and classical text. Extraordinary pop tenor belt.
Pythio: (Late 30’s and up)
The Oracle; powerful, mysterious. Demanding. Great sense of humor—can see through everyone—they are the Oracle of Delphi, after all. Performers isn’t limited to gender identity and ethnicity
8 Ensemble: (20-30’s) All Ethnicities
Unique, Charismatic individuals to inhabit the kingdom of Arcadia. Fantastic dancers and pop singers
